How does backordering a domain name work?
Q. I entered a domain name to order, and it said it was already in use but that for $18.99 I could backorder it. Is that a yearly fee or one time fee until the name becomes available? Also, should I contact the current owner directly since their registration info is listed publicly and ask if they want to selll it to me? What would be the procedure to do that? Thanks!

A. Go to www.pool.com There's no cost to place a backorder. If the domain becomes available, they try to get it for you. If they get it, that's when you get charged.

How to register a domain name without revealing personal information?
Q. For an example, a person wants to create a website about politics. And the discussions on the site might be somewhat radical, which can cause trouble to the founder if their information is revealed. How can that person own a domain name without revealing personal information? PS: I've heard of a feature called "private registration." Is it a safe and risk-free way?
Asked by Peter - Mon Mar 16 23:13:59 2009 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Most registrars will give you the option of putting their information rather than yours as the official contact information for the domain. This is perfectly safe.

What is the best way to register a domain name?
Q. I see many different sites to do it, does it matter which one? Will I own that domain for as long as I pay the fee, no matter what?

A. Registering a domain with a site or another does not make a difference as long as they offer you total DNS control over your domain. Yes, you will own the domain for as long as you pay the fee. I would recommend registering with JordanSoft, it is a Wild West Domain reseller similar to GoDaddy. This reseller is cheaper than GoDaddy for most of the same products. Buying from or GoDaddy makes no difference in service, but you can compare prices to save you a few bucks. For Domain Name registration: .COM: $9.99/year on GoDaddy, $7.99/year on .NET: $12.99/year on GoDaddy, $6.49/year on .ORG: $14.99/year on GoDaddy, $7.99/year on And you will have everything you need to get started online for free, you get the following with… [cont.]
